American company Amentum has been chosen as the sole programme and project management delivery partner for Sizewell C, a new nuclear power station set to boost the United Kingdom’s energy security.

The Sizewell C project, located on the East Suffolk coast in England, will feature two 1.6 gigawatt EPR reactors capable of supplying electricity to 6m homes. This ambitious undertaking is expected to avoid approximately 9m metric tonnes of carbon emissions annually, support 70,000 jobs across more than 3,000 companies in the UK’s nuclear and construction supply chains and strengthen the UK’s energy security amidst volatile global gas prices.

As the sole programme and project management delivery partner, Amentum will provide crucial services to ensure the successful implementation of the project. These services include programme and project management, digitally aligned project controls, engineering and technical services as well as infrastructure solutions for site management. The contract will extend until the station begins generating electricity, creating hundreds of new jobs in the UK.

“Amentum’s global programme management capabilities and international nuclear new build experience will help us deliver the game-changing benefits and cost savings of replicating Hinkley Point C’s reactor design,” said Nigel Cann, joint managing director of Sizewell C, emphasised the benefits of Amentum’s involvement.

The UK Government has demonstrated its commitment to the project by owning 76% of Sizewell C Ltd and pledging an investment totalling £2.5bn.
